Do you have a few minutes to spare in the next few days? Mind testing a @xubuntu point release?
#Xubuntu 24.04.2 is ready for testing on https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/465/builds
It features #Linux kernel 6.11 (formerly 6.8) and numerous bug fixes, including the obscure xfce4-panel crash on close: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-panel/+bug/2064846
For an in-depth look at the package changes, you can take a peek at our manifest diff: https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-manifest/compare/24.04.1...noble-daily-live#diff-24e130eca188654ec3287ec9ba8d0473192ef822b12d48148254c7f357e5e4b1
Thanks for any testing you can provide (and record in the test tracker)!

AI is no longer limited to web applications like ChatGPT – with ShellGPT, large language models (LLMs) can be used directly in the command line. Here is our guide to installing and setting up ShellGPT and Ollama on TUXEDO OS:

After taking a closer look at #XMPP clients for the #linux desktop, there's this frustrating "tie" for finding a favorite.
#Dino, which is likeable for being able to do video and audio calls, only has limited support for multi-user chat (complete with fancy moderation tools). These audio and video calls it can do are AMD64-only at this time.
#Gajim, which is likeable for being able to do multi-user chat well (with great moderation tools), alas, can't do audio and video calls to the other XMPP clients (like, say, #Conversations, as they use a newer #WebRTC-based method now).
So there's this strange situation where one is tempted to use both at the same time.
My takeaway is that #Conversations for #Android is the only xmpp client that I would possibly and carefully recommend to family and friends at this time, as it can cover all of the above. (#Monal on #iOS/#MacOS only has "partial" support for Multi-user chat, BTW.)
Yes I'm aware of the existence of Snikket, Quicksy, and Prav. No need to chime in on those.
Another strange difference between Gajim and Dino: #Dino does allow sending file attachments, but #Gajim doesn't. This is connecting to my Prosody 0.13 server.
Gajim 1.9.5 will show an attachment, as sent by others. It just falsely believes "No File Transfer Available", when you want to try to make a new one.
Valentine's Day is coming up soon - have you got anything yet?

@derekmorr @evacide @eff @CNN I advocate #meditation above all. As to your question - If you are a geek, not a normie, now is a great time to look at #XMPP.
Alas, there's nothing really worth advocating to the normies of the world - I feel it's too early for them to adopt XMPP as a convenient-enough-for-their-expectations replacement.
If the normies *really* needed something *today*, I suppose they could pay an honest, reasonable price for an email address from an email service like posteo.net or purelymail (which support "autocrypt"), then use #Deltachat. Then use #linux (say, #LinuxMint for simplicity) to access this functionality, since it's not AI-patrolled like the other platforms:
https://flathub.org/apps/chat.delta.desktop
@derekmorr @CNN @eff @evacide If users access XMPP *from a linux desktop*, not ever needing a SIM card, or cellular phone number, or smartphone, it is *then* they eschewed the AI-patrolled OS'. When I mention XMPP, I'm excluding services like snikket or Prav, which want to look in a smartphone's contacts list, by design, believing that discovery-of-contacts convenience to be worthwhile enough to come within range of the AI-Intelligence of platforms like iOS or Android.
My solution isn't just XMPP; it's #XMPP as accessed on a #linux desktop. You overlooked my mention of some linux desktop *as the underlying platform*, which would underlie that. And once again, let me mention I feel this is a route for geeks-only at this time, not normies. Even on a relatively cheap #RaspberryPi 5.
As to your mention of the 27 years: let me once again recommend the route of #Deltachat. For normies.
Look at my two babies look all nice and pretty and stuff! 🐧

@debacle @janantos @nirro @bojkotiMalbona @daniel @dino @Monal I've heard that the #XMPP client Gajim for #Linux currently does *not* have Audio/Video calls, which will interoperate with these other XMPP clients. Also note: speaking of relevant devices/platforms - no good XMPP client which can do A/V calls for the #RaspberryPi seems to exist.
