Another strange difference between Gajim and Dino: does allow sending file attachments, but doesn't. This is connecting to my Prosody 0.13 server.

Gajim 1.9.5 will show an attachment, as sent by others. It just falsely believes "No File Transfer Available", when you want to try to make a new one.

@derekmorr @evacide @eff @CNN I advocate above all. As to your question - If you are a geek, not a normie, now is a great time to look at .

Alas, there's nothing really worth advocating to the normies of the world - I feel it's too early for them to adopt XMPP as a convenient-enough-for-their-expectations replacement.

If the normies *really* needed something *today*, I suppose they could pay an honest, reasonable price for an email address from an email service like posteo.net or purelymail (which support "autocrypt"), then use . Then use (say, for simplicity) to access this functionality, since it's not AI-patrolled like the other platforms:

@derekmorr @CNN @eff @evacide If users access XMPP *from a linux desktop*, not ever needing a SIM card, or cellular phone number, or smartphone, it is *then* they eschewed the AI-patrolled OS'. When I mention XMPP, I'm excluding services like snikket or Prav, which want to look in a smartphone's contacts list, by design, believing that discovery-of-contacts convenience to be worthwhile enough to come within range of the AI-Intelligence of platforms like iOS or Android.

My solution isn't just XMPP; it's as accessed on a desktop. You overlooked my mention of some linux desktop *as the underlying platform*, which would underlie that. And once again, let me mention I feel this is a route for geeks-only at this time, not normies. Even on a relatively cheap 5.

As to your mention of the 27 years: let me once again recommend the route of . For normies.

We techies really are nerds living in our own little bubble. Every time I talk to friends outside of IT, they just laugh at the things we take for granted. In our world, it’s completely normal to assume that everyone has their own domain, self-hosts everything, avoids anything proprietary like it’s the plague, and probably has a dozen side projects running on some self-built server in their closet.

But then there’s my friend, a mechanic, who finds this absolutely hilarious. To him, it’s like expecting every car mechanic to not only have their own repair garage at home but also to manufacture their own tools and, while they’re at it, maybe even start their own car brand. It sounds ridiculous when you put it that way - but to us, that’s just how things should be!

@debacle @janantos @nirro @bojkotiMalbona @daniel @dino @Monal I've heard that the client Gajim for currently does *not* have Audio/Video calls, which will interoperate with these other XMPP clients. Also note: speaking of relevant devices/platforms - no good XMPP client which can do A/V calls for the seems to exist.

I've cleared out my "Following Hashtags" menu and I'm now only following from my own users account the FediBuzz URL's. They show up just like before so say the hashtag Linux that I'm following triggers. It shows as Boosted" which is correct for my users as I'm technically following the account "" and they are in my people following.
Maybe change the menu "Followed hashtags..." to "Relay followed hashtags..." too ? I don't know maybe not ?
However if someone does use the relay option then I think it would be better if the "relay name Boosted" could be removed so it looks like a normal post in the users feed.
