devlug.de is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.
@cwebber I use #Bibuomi ( #IRC to #XMPP gateway ) to access whatever IRC channel ( or network for that matter ) I need to ..
So .. basically, hum .. no, I don't get that much chair time because I do IRC from my phone using #Conversations
Pretty cool actually 😎
Just over three weeks remain until the 27th #XMPP Summit takes place in Brussels. If you’re planning to attend but haven’t registered yet, please make sure to add your name to the wiki by the end of this week: https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Conferences/Summit_27
If you’re an XMPP developer or spec author and weren’t planning to attend, I’d strongly encourage you to reconsider
For those who can’t make it to Brussels but will be in Berlin on Wednesday, February 12th, we’ll be discussing the Summit at that week’s XMPP Meetup
Is there a way to set up a service on a server that listens for incoming XMPP messages and forwards them via ntfy? 📡 My wife uses an iPhone, and unfortunately, she doesn’t receive notifications for group chats. 😅 Looking for a clever workaround to keep her in the loop! 💡
@jacqueline Or you can help freedom-respecting #XMPP clients like https://prose.org/ (try it at https://app.prose.org/) and https://movim.eu/ 🙃
You can now add hashtags to your #xmpp / #jabber channels on search.jabber.network! Just add a series of hashtags to the end of your channel's description.
Note that we maintain an allowlist of tags here: https://search.jabber.network/tags/ Tags which are not on that list are ignored.
Suggest new tags we should add/allow in the replies to this thread!
This release also marks the implementation of a feature people have been asking since forever: Search #xmpp / #jabber channels by language. You can now do that!
To search for all channels in french, you could type "lang:fr" in the search bar. Like this: https://search.jabber.network/search?q=lang%3Afr
"lang:foo" can be combined with other search terms.
More information on how to search by language is found in the FAQ: https://search.jabber.network/docs/faq
@genodeftest @stefan
#xmpp ist außerdem deutlich leichtgewichtiger als Matrix, sowohl auf dem Server als auch die Clients selbst.
Family dinners are a good opportunity to explain that there are other messaging systems than #Whatsapp.
(Having had to try this app out, its interface is completely rubbish, I couldn't understand how it works 🤦♀️ )
Show them what you can do with Conversations, Snikket, Monal, Siskin or your preferred #xmpp client and explain the advantages of decentralization (as with email, by the way).
Season’s Greetings
If you run a public #XMPP server can you look up what percentage of connected clients are Blabber? I’m wondering if the 15% reported by jabberfr.org is a weird outlier. On our server (conversations.im) the number is closer to 4-5% but we are obviously biased towards Conversations users.
Good holidays to everyone! And to all who have to work during this time, keep up your good work!
News:
From today until the 31. December monocles chat is available for free in the Playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.monocles.chat&pcampaignid=web_share
Feel free to chat with us on XMPP xmpp:support@conference.monocles.eu
I just saw that #Conversations and #monocleschat seem to be currently available for free in the Google Play Store.
Thanks @daniel and @monocles for this great offer.
This might be a good chance to onboard Google Play users to #XMPP.
But do not forget: You can also use #fdroid or #Codeberg to get those apps.

@vel Please spend your time and effort improving existing #XMPP clients instead -
* Android - Conversations/Quicksy, Cheogram, Monocles Chat
* iOS - Monal/Quicksy, Siskin
* desktop - Gajim, Dino, Poezio
* web - Movim, Libervia, Prose, Converse.js
It will be more useful to more people. You will improve implementations of an existing standard instead of making _yet_ another chat protocol.
There's _zero_ reason all the features you list can't be added to XMPP.
@erebion @dino
The table just listens some common #XMPP apps which are not too complicated for normal users.
If you are looking for a wider range of clients, you can have a look at: https://xmpp.org/software/
But there is no information whether end-to-end encryption is activated by default.
