Using Thunderbird for #Jabber is what I call a #BadIdea™ nowadays 🙂

Please try a modern client, e.g. #Gajim by @gajim, #Dino by @dino, #Conversations_im by @daniel, or #Monal by @Monal.

Note, that I have most of my non-technical friends and family on #XMPP, and it works pretty well.

Made me age by five years and it's still ugly at some places, but hey!

I don't have any experience with #selfHosting Matrix. From what I heard, it can be difficult, if users join huge rooms. But it should be just fine, if not.

I do #selfHost some #Jabber/#XMPP servers, though, both #ejabberd by @ejabberd and #prosody by @prosodyim and that's pretty easy.

From what I heard #snikket by @snikket_im, a dockerized prosody, is even more easy, but never tried it.

Maybe give both Matrix and Jabber a try and report here on your experience? I'm curious!
