Said it before, Iâd love to help build something competitive based on XMPP that can replace Discord et al.

Happy Birthday to #InstantMessaging and #RealTimeCommunication with #XMPP!
Emerged from the #Jabber #community in 1999 and originally designed to provide an open and #decentralised alternative to #ICQ and #MSN, XMPP evolved to an independent alternative for todays #chat apps.

Happy Jabber Day đ đ„ł
On January 4, 1999, Jabber was first announced to the publicÂč.
Twenty-seven years later, Jabberâor XMPP, as it became known after standardization through the #IETFâremains the only truly vendor-independent, federated instant messaging platform.
In almost three decades, XMPP has never stopped evolving and remains our best tool for digital independence.

I spent about 2 full working days doing #AI coding (not #vibecoding, but with more control and careful guidance). the end result is a daemon I just deployed to send me alerts on #XMPP and #IRC.
What's legally interesting, is that 3+ KLOC result of #Python code has no copyright protection at all â copyright protects specific expressions of creativity, and there's not a signle line I had written myself: from start to end it was "AI".
I think #XMPP has a relatively clear and achievable path to drastically reduce the amount of metadata, but Iâm increasingly worried that it is not going to move the needle in terms of adoption.
For 99.99% of people, the only relevant feature for an instant messenger is simply 'Are my friends using it?' The other 0.01% are equally divided between people who already use XMPP and donât mind the metadata, and people who wonât use it anyway.

Libervia CLI Tip 20:
There is a REPL in the CLI that you can launch with `li shell`.
Inside, you can select a command or sub-command with `cmd`, and fix an argument with `use`:
> cmd pubsub
pubsub> use service pubsub.example.org
Then just enter the sub-command to run it on the given service:
pubsub> affiliations
This is equivalent to `li pubsub affiliation -s pubsub.example.org`.
This is handy for exploring services.

I've just pushed Tor integration in Libervia (first step of the NLnet metadata reduction and serverless grant).
https://nlnet.nl/project/ServerlessXMPP/
This has been done thanks to the work of @meejah on `txtorcon` and of course of @torproject and the support of @nlnet and @NGIZero .
A thought for Lunar who is mentioned in the documentation of txtorcon (for doing the Debian package) and who passed away last year.
